The Coloursome Story

— Full Brand Story

The Road That Changed Everything

Every brand has a beginning. Ours began not in a boardroom or a design studio, but on a road — a dusty, winding road through the heartland of Tamil Nadu — and a stubborn refusal to give up when the original plan fell apart.

It was never supposed to be footwear.

The journey started with a different idea entirely. Something that seemed straightforward at the time — source beautiful products, build a brand, bring something worth owning to Indian consumers. Simple enough. Except nothing about building a brand from scratch is simple, and the universe had a habit of making that very clear.

The setbacks came early and they came hard. Suppliers who didn't deliver. Shipments that got stuck. Costs that spiralled. The kind of early-stage chaos that tests whether you actually want to build something or whether you just liked the idea of it.

It turned out the answer was: actually want to.

So when one plan ran into a wall, the response was not to stop — it was to turn. And that turn led somewhere unexpected.

The Detour

A trip to Tiruppur — India's textile capital — was supposed to be a routine research visit. Fabric mills, garment manufacturers, supply chain exploration. Standard founder homework.

But on the drive back, something pulled the route further south.

Through Ambur. Through Vellore. Into Ranipet.

These are not places that make the news. They do not appear on lists of India's most exciting cities. They are quiet, working towns — towns where the real business of making things happens, away from the spotlight, away from the noise.

And in these towns, there is leather.

Not just any leather. Some of the finest leather in the world — processed in tanneries that have been operating for generations, using techniques refined over decades, producing hides that end up in luxury goods across Europe and the Americas. India is one of the world's largest producers of leather, and the best of it comes from this corridor of Tamil Nadu.

The craftspeople working with it — quietly, without fanfare, without Instagram accounts or press coverage — are extraordinary. Their hands carry knowledge that cannot be found in any factory manual. Their work ethic is the kind that makes you feel embarrassed about your own.

And yet, somehow, most Indians were still wearing imported footwear.

That felt wrong. It still does.

Ten Months

What followed were ten months that can best be described as beautiful, frustrating, expensive, and completely worthwhile.

Tanneries were visited and revisited. Manufacturers were met, assessed, and challenged. Samples were made — dozens of them — worn, tested, rejected, remade. Materials were evaluated not just for how they looked on day one but for how they would hold up on day one hundred, day five hundred, day one thousand.

The footbed was obsessed over. The cork-and-latex construction that supports your arch, cradles your heel, and gradually moulds to the shape of your foot — this took months to get right. Too firm and it felt like standing on a wooden board. Too soft and it lost its structure after a few weeks. The balance took iteration after iteration to find.

The suede lining had to be just right — soft enough to be genuinely comfortable against bare skin, durable enough to survive daily wear without pilling or wearing through. The EVA sole had to provide real cushioning without adding unnecessary weight. The buckles had to be solid metal — not the lightweight, hollow hardware that cheap footwear uses and that tarnishes and breaks within months.

Everything was tested. Everything was questioned. Everything that wasn't good enough was sent back.

And slowly — one decision, one material, one sample at a time — something began to emerge that felt worth being proud of.

What Coloursome Is

Coloursome is the result of that journey. It is what those ten months of stubborn exploration became.

It is a leather footwear brand built on a simple conviction: that Indian craftsmanship is world-class, that Indian leather is among the finest on earth, and that the Indian who wears premium footwear deserves a brand that is made here, for them, with the same care and quality they have been seeking abroad.

We make three styles, each with its own character and its own story.

The Heritage is our two-strap sandal — the style that has been the world's most recognised comfort sandal for decades. Two adjustable leather straps. Antique brass buckles. A deep cork footbed with built-in arch support and suede lining that moulds to your foot over time. The Heritage is for the woman who has worn this style before and knows exactly why she keeps coming back to it. It is familiar and timeless — a design that does not chase trends because it has already outlasted several of them.

The Prime is our closed-toe clog — the style worn by artists, architects, chefs, and wanderers the world over. A single adjustable buckle across the instep. Soft suede leather on both the upper and the lining. The same deep cork footbed, the same arch support, the same suede insole that defines every Coloursome product. The Prime is for the woman who wants the same comfort as an open sandal but with the intention and completeness of a closed shoe. It moves from morning to evening without effort. It pairs with everything.

The Bloom is our woven leather slide — the one that stops people in the street and makes them ask where you got it. Hand-woven genuine leather in four rich colours: Indigo, Pine, Burgundy, and Petal Pink. Each pair takes longer to make than either of the other styles — the weaving is done by hand, and no two pairs are identical. The Bloom is for the woman who believes that comfort and self-expression are not competing values. That you can wear something genuinely beautiful and genuinely comfortable at the same time. That your footwear can say something about who you are.

How We Make Them

Every Coloursome sandal and clog is manufactured in Tamil Nadu, India — the same town that first stopped us in our tracks on that unplanned road trip.

The leather we use is genuine — not synthetic, not faux, not Birko-Flor or any other laboratory-made alternative. Real leather. The kind that softens and develops character with wear.

The footbed is cork and latex — the combination that has been used in anatomical footwear for over a century because nothing else comes close to its combination of cushioning, support, and adaptability. It is moulded with a deep heel cup, raised arch supports on both the inner and outer longitudinal arches, a transverse metatarsal support across the ball of the foot, and toe grip indentations that let your toes spread and move naturally. This is not a flat insole with foam padding. This is an anatomical support system designed around how the human foot actually works.

The suede lining covers the entire footbed surface — the material your skin actually touches. It is soft, breathable, and kind. The hardware — every buckle on every model — is solid metal with an antique brass finish. The sole is EVA — lightweight, flexible, shock-absorbing, and durable.

Everything is checked before it ships. Everything.

Why the Name

Coloursome is not a word we invented — it is a word we found.

During the early days of building the brand, before the product category was even decided, we were searching for a name. Not just any name — a name that would be easy to remember, easy to say, and open enough to grow with the brand. We explored hundreds of options. Most were taken. Most that weren't taken didn't feel right.

Then we found Coloursome. And both coloursome.com and coloursome.in were available.

That felt like a sign.

What we loved about it immediately was its room to breathe. Coloursome was never meant to be a footwear brand name — it was meant to be a fashion, accessories, and leather lifestyle brand name. As Coloursome grows, so does the collection — leather bags, leather clothing, leather accessories, and the things that naturally complement a life built around quality leather goods. Sunglasses. The pieces that complete a look. Everything under one name, one aesthetic, one standard of craft.

The word itself does a lot of work. "Colour" signals something about how we see the world — not in safe defaults, not in the muted tones. The Bloom in Indigo, Pine, Burgundy, and Petal Pink was born from that conviction. The Heritage in Coffee Brown and Tobacco Brown — rich, warm, considered tones that are miles from generic. The Prime in Taupe — understated but deliberate. Every colour we choose is chosen. Nothing is accidental.

And "some" — that suffix that turns a noun into something more expansive. Wholesome. Handsome. Awesome. There is something about that construction that feels full, warm, and complete. Coloursome. It sounds like a brand because it feels like one.

The name found us before the product did. That is exactly how it should be.

Where We Are Going

Coloursome launched in 2026 with three models and a small but carefully chosen inventory. We are available on coloursome.com and on Amazon India, and we ship across the country.

This is the beginning.

The plan — the real plan — has always been bigger than sandals. Coloursome is a leather goods brand. Footwear is where we started because footwear is where the craft is most visible, most tactile, most personal. You wear your shoes differently from how you wear anything else. They carry you. They shape how you move. They are, in a very literal sense, your foundation.

But leather is leather. The attention to material and hardware and construction goes into every Coloursome product we will ever make.

There are handbags in our future. Belts. Wallets. Accessories. More footwear styles — including styles with closed toes, formal options, men's options.

For now though, there is this. Three styles. Four colours in one of them. A brand that exists because a road trip went further south than planned and because Indian leather deserves better than anonymity.

Come walk with us.
